Welcome to Turun normaalikoulu
Turun normaalikoulu (TNK) or Norssi, as we like to call it, has two important missions that are closely intertwined. Firstly, it is part of the Faculty of Education of Turku University as it plays a central role in the training of prospective teachers. Secondly, it provides education from primary to upper secondary level.
Turun normaalikoulu is the largest teacher training school operating in one locality in Finland. The oldest roots can be traced back to Karelia in the late 1700s. The school has been in its present location in Varissuo since 1980. Turun normaalikoulu has 130 teachers and 250 teacher trainees working on the same premises. There are more than 900 pupil in Turun normaalikoulu.
Turun normaalikoulu has been a UNESCO-school since 1999. Currently about twenty nationalities are represented in the student body of approximately 900 students. Co-operation both at national and international level is of high importance for the school, which also takes part actively in EU projects.
Due to its nature as a teacher training unit, Turun normaalikoulu is a forerunner in implementing, developing and testing new educational methods, technology and curricula. Various specialized programmes can be found at the different levels ranging from bilingual education to the arts. The school has been engaged in distance teaching since 1995.
InformationAs a teacher training school Turun normaalikoulu is multicultural and international centre of learning. In the vision of the school our key values are general knowledge and the knowledge, skills and resources, which support the children's learning as well as the development of their self-esteem. Normaalikoulu takes part in national and local research and development projects in co-operation with the University of Turku. Normaalikoulu is also an active participant in developing the Varissuo area in Turku.
VisionTurun normaalikoulu is an active and energetic school, which reacts to the changes in the society. We are an international and multicultural centre of learning. Our pupils, trainee teachers, teachers and other members of staff are motivated, appreciative and co-operative in their work.
Pupils graduating from our school have the knowledge and skills needed in the society. They are prepared to change things and they have a good self-esteem. They are tolerant and they respect others. They are eager to participate in developing the society and the environment.
Our teacher trainees value the education they receive. They believe that the tutored training supports their development as teachers and that it gives them tools which will help them in their work as teachers.
Palasia Suomen historiasta
Kuka olikaan Suomen ensimmäinen presidentti, milloin tuli oppivelvollisuuslaki, milloin syntyivät ensimmäiset lähiöt ja koska ruvettiin käyttämään euroja? Historian auskut olivat valmistaneet mielenkiintoisen esityksen itsenäisen Suomen vaiheista. Kuvien ja musiikin myötä päästiin kokemaan suomalaista historiaa. Kiitos hienosta esityksestä!
